How do I set up two factor authentication (2FA)?

Written by Joanna

To further enhance login security, we now offer optional two-factor authentication (2FA). This adds a second step every time you log in where you will need to enter a code generated by any Authenticator app.

⚠️ IMPORTANT

  • Before starting, you MUST have any Authenticator app set up on your mobile or tablet

  • Once active, you will need to have your device to hand each time you log in

Setting it up

In Digital Practice, the option is under your profile

  1. Click your profile image (or coloured circle with your initials if no image is present) in the top right hand corner of your screen

  2. Click 'My profile'

  3. Click 'Enable 2FA' - you will be logged out

Clinic admins can choose to set 2FA for everyone at the clinic, in clinic settings under the 'Settings' sub-menu.

Logging in

When 2FA is active, a new screen will appear after you have entered your normal login details - see below.

  1. Log in to Digital Practice as normal

  2. On the next screen you will see a QR code. You need to scan this from within the Authenticator app on your device

  3. Enter the code that the app gives you and hit submit

  4. If the incorrect code is entered, we show a message “Unable to verify your code, please try again”

Turning it off

To turn 2FA off, you will have to log in, pass the 2FA step, then reverse the steps above in profile or clinic settings. Note that if your clinic system administrator has enforced 2FA you will not be able to turn it off.
